What do you think?

It is very easy to criticise the social and political structure in which we live, and I have been concerned that this blog may have a negative tone.

I would love to write positive and uplifting epistles about what it would be like to live in the ideal world of classical liberalists, but there’s two problems with that. First, plenty of other people have already done so, and far better than I ever could. Second, it doesn’t help people who are living in the world we have right now.

I think that many people – I was once one of them – are living in a State-created prison, the bars of which they cannot see (and many do not want to see). Without wanting to self-aggrandise, my hope is that I can show people where those bars are, because that is the first step to freedom. Pardon the cliche, but the ultimate freedom is inside your head, and you lose that freedom when you don’t realise that you’re in a jail with jailers who are manipulating your mind. We may never be free of the physical constraints of the State, but if our minds are free the State has not won the war.

Unfortunately, pointing out the prison bars to people involves negativity; perhaps negativity must come before the positivity of freedom.

What do you think about all this? If you have any thoughts please post a comment.
